Wylie “Gene” Bruce was born on Jan. 10, 1930 in Bryson, TX. He went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2020. He grew up in Bryson where he was the fifth of six children born to his parents. After graduating from high school, Gene attended Cisco Junior College and Abilene Christian College until he entered the United States Army where he served for four years. He was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington during his military service.
After returning home from his army service, he met and married Coleta Ford and they moved to Graham, TX where they lived for more than 50 years. He is survived by his son David Bruce, of McKinney, TX with his wife, Valinda. Gene has two grandchildren Hope Matous of Tyler, Texas and Landon Bruce of Anna, Texas. He has two great-grandchildren Beckett and Gracie Matous. His wife Coleta preceded him in death in December of 2013.
Gene spent his working career in the construction business. At various times throughout his career, he owned a painting business, a home building business, a custom cabinet & furniture restoration shop, and an antique store. He and Coleta were very active members in their church and community.
Gene never met a stranger and always had a kind word to say to anyone he met. As he always said to his son David “everyone no matter who they are in this world deserves respect”! He will be missed!
