Dr. T. Carl McMillan

Memorial Services for Dr. T. Carl McMillan, age 87, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the First Baptist Church; a private family interment will be held prior to services. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Carl passed away Saturday, March 2 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 21, 1931, to Tommy and Lois (Knox) McMillan in Lampasas County. He graduated third from his class at Lampasas High School in 1949. Carl was 1st Lieutenant in the Army National Guard and later in the U. S. Army. He attended Howard Payne University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Math in 1953, a Master’s degree in Administrative Education in 1960, and earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from East Texas State University in 1976.

Carl taught history, government, math, and P.E. at the high school level for 12 years. As a basketball coach in Graham, he led his team to the State Championship in 1964. He was a high school Principal for two years and Superintendent for 21 years, at Lordsburg, N.M., Wilmer-Hutchins, Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Harlingen districts.

Carl was an active member and officer in the Lions Club, CASA, Good Samaritan and Graham Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Brownwood City Council and served as mayor pro tem for two terms. He was instrumental in developing the Aquatic Center, Cen-Tex Soccer Field, Lehnis Railroad Museum, and expansion of the new central fire station. He was an active advocate on the Republican Party, serving as co-chairman of the BCRP. Carl was also a member of First Baptist Church.

Carl was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred McMillan; his two daughters and their spouses, Rebecca Johnston and husband Keith, Kathy McMillan Wichman and husband Jeff; grandsons, Jeremy Brister and Holden McMillan; and two brothers and their, Bob McMillan and wife Arlene, Marshall McMillan and wife Carol. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gladys Snyder; and brother, Norman McMillan.
