Marvin O. Shafer Jr., 94, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 in Graham. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home. A Graveside was Monday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. in Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Marvin was born Jan. 11, 1925 in Best to the late Marvin Ozias Shafer and Eddie Naomi Hooker Shafer. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Marvin married Johnnie B. Boyles, May 1, 1947 in San Angelo. He was a retired conductor for Santa Fe Railroad. Marvin moved to Graham in 1988 from Lubbock. He was a member of Young County Masonic Lodge #485. He was a member of Salem-Crestview United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie B. Shafer, of Graham; daughters, Sharon Sumner and husband, Jasper, of Graham, and Paula Wells and husband, Kenneth, of Arizona City, Ariz.; son, Denis Hill Shafer, of Liberty Hill; grandchildren, Leslie Wells, of Lubbock, Kevin Sumner, of Graham, Jody Wells and wife, Katherine, of Lubbock, Michael Sumner and wife, Kelly, of Midlothian, Lori Hufstedler and husband, Joshua, of Graham; great grandchildren, Hannah, Kate, Emma, Owen, Jacob, Mackenzie, Emily, Kolby and Luke.
