CLYDE – Robert Gayle Howe, 66 of Clyde, affectionately known to all as Bobby, passed away on Sunday Sept. 9 along with his son Daniel Justin Howe in a motor vehicle accident.

Bobby was born in Blanket, on Sept. 15, 1951 to James Edward and Doris Bonita Petross, and he graduated the class of 1970 from Clyde High School.

It was love at first sight for Bobby, on Aug. 5, 1972, when he met a beautiful red head in a Red Barn Restaurant and he pursued Bonnie Mae Hays until she relented and they were married on May 5, 1973 in Graham. Bonnie will miss her better half, his long-winded stories and his half-finished projects.

Bobby was a big man with a heart the size of Texas. He touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. Everyone was affected by his generosity, his country ingenuity and his sense of humor. Known as PawPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren he always made time for each and every one and made sure they felt special. He attended all their sports and scout functions and smiled big with pride at all their accomplishments. He was the best PawPaw any kid could have; he always knew what they needed, whether it be a heart to heart conversation, a trip to the donut shop, chocolate chip cookies when mom said no, or texting a silly joke.

Regardless of how long any foster children came to be part of our family he was always PawPaw whether they were with us only several weeks or longer he accepted them with open arms and showered them with love.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother James Edward Howe and survived by his wife of 45 yrs. Bonnie Howe of Clyde, his sister Nancy Spence-Rose of Abilene, his daughter Donna Monsey and her husband Kevin Monsey of Clyde, and their children, Joshua Conner, Callie Monsey, Makenlie Monsey, Hollie Monsey and Nicholas Monsey, his son Thomas Howe and his wife Nicola Howe of Garland and their children, Samone Howe, Collin Howe and Anniston Howe, his daughter in law Lindsey Howe and her children Brydon Howe, Gaven Howe and Gwyneth Howe, his granddaughter Mackenzie Rogers, and his great-grandchildren Xerayah, Marko and Camden.

He spent his early years as a long-haul truck driver and throughout his long career he held several positions as a large equipment operator hauling pipe, clearing brush fire lines, building roads, building stock tanks and clearing oil rig pads all over West Texas. Since 2008, Bobby was the owner, operator of Howe Excavation and recently Bobby was working on retiring from his own business and trying to convince Bonnie to retire. They had plans to begin traveling across the U.S. with their best friends Charlie and Janet Moon.

Visitation will be at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde, on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 4-7 p.m. Services are being held at First Baptist Church Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. The family will have a private internment of his ashes at a later date.

Our family appreciates the large out pouring of love and prayers, and we are all so overwhelmed by the support of the community.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations for the Howe Family Memorial Fund to Bonnie Howe, at First Bank of Texas, account 55250777.

Henry was the baby of twelve children, six boys and six girls. He was born and raised in Mercedes in the “Magic Rio Grande Valley”. He was a member of many civic groups, city councils and on several boards of community organizations.

Henry was very active in the Mercedes Livestock Show. He also built and demonstrated a replica of his father’s blacksmith shop on the show grounds. Henry was also a proud member of the Rio Grande Valley Old Farm Equipment Club for many years. He was a member and also served as chief of the volunteer fire department in Los Fresnos and Mercedes. Henry built a large shop where he restored vintage tractors and antique engines and made his own biodiesel.  The talent that he was the most devoted to was woodworking. “There’s only one kind of wood, mesquite,” he would say. He enjoyed spending his hours building anything mesquite.  He also enjoyed sharing his passion with the students in the Sharyland shop classes.

God, please bless Paul Pulliam and welcome him with open arms. One thing to watch out for, however...if given the opportunity...he will probably be trying to fix any "squeaks" that the pearly gates might have or fix any bumps in those streets of gold. He loves to fix things and help people. He will be very beneficial as a newcomer.

Paul, 72, passed into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Friday, Sept. 21st, in Dallas, to take on whatever chores the Good Lord has for him in that Great Paradise Ranch in the sky. Paul Pulliam was born Jan. 13, 1946, in Ft. Worth, to his parents, Mary and Charles A. Pulliam. He was married to Sherri Sledge Pulliam for 47 years. Paul was a Kappa Sigma at Southern Methodist University and graduated with a BBA in 1968.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves 1969-1974. Paul graduated from SMU Law School in 1971. Paul and Sherri married in 1971 and have lived in Dallas for 46 years. Paul was a practicing attorney from 1971-1976. From 1976-1979, he was President of Pioneer Title Co. and from 1979-1988, he served as President of Safeco Title Co. In 1988, Paul was co-founder of a new title company, Republic Title of Texas. He served as CEO of Republic Title of Texas until his retirement in Dec. 2010. At Republic Title of Texas, Paul helped to develop an employee stock ownership plan where each employee had a stake in the company.

He had a great love and respect for his employees. After retiring from the title business, Paul became a West Texas rancher on his Paradise Ranch at Possum Kingdom Lake. He had an imposing physical presence--a giant who always looked for a chance to help others. A man of enormous energy, he didn't like applying the brakes to life. One of his greatest adventures was scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef with Sherri in 1999 at 53 years old. Paul left a very big ripple in the pond of life, he will not be forgotten. Paul was a devoted son. When he moved his Mother, Mary, to Dallas in 1999, he would stop by for coffee with her every morning and then visit her every evening on his way home from work, until she died in 2005.

Paul served the Dallas Community in the following offices: North Dallas Bank Board of Directors for 35 years, The Real Estate Council-Founding Member, Director of Easter Seal Society for Children, Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Chairman of 2001 Byron Nelson Golf Tournament, University Park Elementary Dad's Club Vice-Pres., Finance Committee for HPHS School Board, Public Works Committee of City of University Park and Possum Kingdom Lake Assoc. Board Member. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Dallas, a member of Dallas Country Club and the self-appointed "Mayor of Caddo Creek" at Possum Kingdom Lake.

Thank you, family and friends, for your prayers and support. Thank you Dr. Paul Wade, Dr. Randy Kirby, Harlee Youngblood, Palo Pinto General Hospital Mineral Wells, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

Paul Matthew Burnham

On Oct. 4, 2018 at the age of 62, Paul Matthew Burnham was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul was born September 20, 1956 in Graham, Texas, to Forrest  “Juke” Hayden Burnham and Ludonna Jane Burnham. His mother  was an elementary school teacher and principal, while his father worked as a health inspector for the State of Texas. Paul grew up in Graham, Ralls, Lorenzo, and Round Rock with his brothers Nick and David and his sister Leesa. Although he played little league baseball and football growing up, playing Army was his favorite. He used to play with hundreds of plastic Army men, lining them up to play war, and attaching firecrackers to them so he could blow them up. He would later pass this on to his children and his nieces and nephews.

Due to his mischievous nature, he spent a lot of his childhood in the ER getting sewn up or bandaged. He would often be found riding his favorite horse Paint through town, racing against  trains with his sister holding onto the saddle for dear life. If you couldn’t find him on the saddle you could find him in the cab of an old purple truck he bought with his brother David. They bought it for $100 and you could see the pavement through the floorboard.

In high school he was in the FFA.  He traveled a lot with his brothers and father, showing the steers and lambs he raised for livestock shows.  He also spent time playing pranks on his  friends and family.  One of his favorite things was keeping people laughing.  Out on the road one night, he and his buddy Jack Sweatman killed a rattle snake.  He decided to put it on the  front porch of his own house, ring the doorbell, and let his mother discover it.  When he was a child he tried to set his grandmother GamGam’s house on fire, even though he had a very close relationship with her.  Paul spent the majority of his time with his family throughout high school, and then went on to Texas A&M to study Animal Science.  He planned to go to vet school, but  also joined the Corps of Cadets in case he wanted to have a  career in the military.  He graduated from Texas A&M, class of 1979, and was a member of the M-1 company.

After graduation, Paul spent 29 years serving in the Army as a combat engineer. He was stationed in multiple places across the country and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Paul was especially proud of his acceptance to the Army War College and  serving with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force (CJSOTF) in Afghanistan.

Paul raised his three children, Ashley, Julie, and Corey, as a  single parent, several thousand miles away from any family. He was an incredibly loving father who was always thinking of the   next adventure with his kids the most memorable being when he  would take them to San Antonio, stayed at the Embassy Suites, ate at Golden Corral, and went to Fiesta Texas and Sea World. His kids, twenty plus years later, still talk about these vacations.

Although Paul was a financially wise man of integrity, he was also a “smart ass” (biblical term) who was very funny and was always making up songs. He was a man of many one liners, the least of these being, “Let me check my give a shit meter,”  “Negative ghost rider,” “Help me smell this up,” “Shit  fire save matches,” “Fuller than a wood tick”, etc. etc. He had a very realistic but positive outlook on life, and was always  willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. Paul always looked out for his kids, and had others best interest at heart.  In a nutshell, Paul was a "good sum' bitch”.

Paul leaves behind his mother Ludonna Jane Burnham, his children Ashley Nicole Burnham, Julie Jane Burnham, and Corey Lee Burnham,  his brothers Forrest (Nick) Berry Burnham and David Norman Burnham, and his sister Leesa Gayle Sager.

To honor Paul’s life, his children have planned a visitation beginning at 1 p.m. with a Life Celebration to begin at 2 p.m.  on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Living Hope Baptist Church at 4170 State Hwy 6 S. College Station, TX 77845. Paul requested that his service be celebratory and not somber. For this reason he requested that attendees wear little to no black.

In lieu of flowers, his children ask that donations be made in Paul’s honor to the Aggie BSM at http://aggiebsm.org/give or to Children at Heart Ministries at https://donate.cahm.org/give/87086/#!/donation/checkout.

Please share any memories or tributes to Paul at https://www.hillierfuneralhome.com/tributes/Paul-Burnham or on his Caring Bridge Page at https://www.caringbridge/org/visit/teamburnham.

Wayne Mitchell Greer

Wayne Mitchell Greer was born on Aug. 11, 1938 in Goldsboro, to Ross and Mildred Greer. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1957. He began working in the printing business at age 14 and went on to spend the next 58 years in the newspaper and printing business finally retiring at the age of 72.

Wayne’s first passion away from work was with the volunteer fire service, spending over 40 years donating his time to help and serve others. Wayne was a long time member of the McCamey Volunteer Fire Department. He served various offices in the department including being chief for numerous years. He also served as a guest instructor at the annual Texas A&M Fire School for many years (too many to recall). He taught portable fire extinguishers at both the municipal school in the summer as well as the spring training session.

Wayne taught at several area schools throughout the years which included Andrews, Floyadada, San Angelo and wherever his expertise was called upon. He was a member of the LaPorte VFD in the early seventies. While at LaPorte VFD he was certified as an EMT and served on the ambulance service as well. He became a certified EMT/ECA instructor and trained many EMT’s in LaPorte and west Texas in the 70s and early 80s. He is a past president of the Permian Basin Firefighter’s Association and served on the financial board with the State Fire Marshalls and Firefighters Association during the late 80s and early 90s.

Wayne’s second passion was fixing things. He wasn’t just a mechanic but a genius when it came to troubleshooting and repairing just about anything you put in front of him. If he couldn’t fix it then it probably couldn’t be fixed. And then there was flying and fishing. Wayne was probably his happiest when he was either flying around in his Cherokee or catching (or at least attempting to catch) a fish.

Wayne is survived by his wife Guyla of Possum Kingdom Lake, his sister Margie Candler of Los Alamos, New Mexico, his children Monte and Chrissy Greer of Horseshoe Bay, Alan and Robin Greer of Lipan, Dennis and Mandy Greer of McCamey, Marla and Jerry Don Cook of Brady, Shane and Rhonda Flanagan of Possum Kingdom Lake and Mike Williams of Odessa, 33 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, way too many nieces and nephews to count and his faithful companion Cheech.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two older brothers: Clinton and Guy Greer. Even after death, Wayne insisted on training others by donating his body to science for research and training purposes. Wayne requested that there not be a funeral service. He didn’t want anyone to fuss over him. Wayne did request that if any type of service was held, that it would be a joyous service that allowed people to tell their stories and to laugh with him one last time. The family agreed to honor his wishes and not hold a funeral service but instead hold a celebration of life in his honor. Wayne’s celebration will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Possum Kingdom Community Church.
