Dr. Kurt Brown passed away June 5, 2017 at his home in Graham, surrounded by his family, after a two-year triumphant battle with ALS. A rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1218 Rodgers Dr., Graham, on Thursday, June 8, at 7 p.m., and a funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Friday, June 9.
Kurt Thomas Brown was born Sept. 22, 1960 in Columbia, Mo., to the late Dr. William Donald Brown and Diane Jeanine (Hydeman) Brown. God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to remove from the walks of men this kind and compassionate soul, but the works of Kurt Brown will live on for many generations yet to come. Kurt moved to Graham in 1990 and spent his life as a chiropractor, endeavoring to help those in pain regardless of their ability to pay.
If Kurt Brown could speak to us today he would not ask for a glowing obituary. He would refuse to allow his name spread over the pages of his own home newspaper. He genuinely disliked personal publicity and consistently evaded the limelight. Kurt was a man who lived by the side of the road and watched the race of man go by.
Typical of his desire to be of service to others, Kurt requested that his body be donated for research. Arrangements have been made with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Kurt is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Lori, of Graham; his devoted son, John Brown and daughter-in-law Allie of San Antonio and by a grandson, William Kurt Brown.

Nancy Jean Ustick, 65, of Graford, died June 7, 2017, after a long illness. She was a resident of Graford for over 15 years. Nancy was born June 2, 1952, in Adrian, Michigan. She graduated from Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan. She received her bachelor of science degree from Michigan State University, and she was a flight attendant for American Airlines, traveling the world for 37 years before retiring.
Nancy was a very special person, fierce in defense of the defenseless: abandoned animals, the abused, and the environment. Trees and animals spoke to her tender heart. She never failed to stop on the highway to pick up a turtle to move it safely to the other side, or to wrap up a discarded kitten and take it to the vet. As a child, she would pick up struggling earthworms from sidewalk puddles after rainstorms and place them in the grass.
Nancy was a spiritual person who believed in miracles and the basic goodness of all. She had a zest for life and viewed it as a supreme adventure. Nancy's greatest love was and is her daughter Adriana, of whom she was justifiably proud. Nancy was a loyal and loving mother, sister and friend. She is sure to be welcomed to the next life with love and adoration by all creatures great and small.
